Barossa Duathlon

                                                                                                                      Welcome to the Home Page of the Barossa Duathlon, a celebration of Duathlon in the picturesque landscape of the Barossa Valley, home to SA’s best known wine district. The event incorporates the 2011 Australian Duathlon Championship and South Australian Duathlon Championship being held by Triathlon South Australia as part of the Australian Duathlon Series and incorporates the XIII Masters Games.

The Barossa Duathlon is on Sunday 16th October, so why not make a weekend of it, and enjoy the Barossa.  For further details on the Barossa Valley including accomodation visit www.barossa.com 

 

Event Location 

Race headquarters and transition will be at the newly built Barossa Aquatic Fitness Centre “the Rex” Magnolia Rd, Tanunda 1hr 20mins from Adelaide  The Centre has change rooms, showers, parking and a café.

7.45am      Registration closes for Short course, Masters Games & Long Course / Race Briefing

8.00am      Short Course / Masters Games start

8.30am      Long Course start

Seppestfield Long Course

Run 1     10 kilometres     4 Laps of flat 2.5 kilometre course

Ride       40 kilometres     2 laps of undulating 20 kilometre course including Menglers Hill (details)

Run 2     5 kilometres       2 laps of same 2.5 kilometre course

Short Course XIII Masters Games

Run 1     5 kilometres       2 Laps of flat 2.5 kilometre course

Ride       20 kilometres     3 laps of flat 6.7 kilometre course

Run 2     2.5 kilometres       1 lap of same 2.5 kilometre course

Competition Categories  

Competition categories are as follows, with ages calculated as at 31 December 2011 

Seppestfield Long Course (10K/40K/5K) 

This is the Australian Championship and South Australian Championship race.  The following categories will be included in both Championships: 

Open Male & Female

Male & Female 18/19

Male & Female 5 year age groups from 20-24 to 80+

Teams  Male, Female and Mixed

Teams Junior Male, Female and Mixed (minimum age 18 years)

 

The Open category is for those athletes competing for prize money only.

 

There will be prize money on offer for the Open/Elite category only.

Equal prize money is awarded to both the male and female open categories.

The breakdown of the prize money for each race is as follows:

Male & Female 5 year age groups from 20/24 to 80+

Entry Fees       

All particpants who are not annual members of Triathlon Australia are required to pay a One Day Membership (ODM).

ODM is a Race Day Membership issued to a person for a particular day, which entitles the holder to compete in a sanctioned event on that day and which includes public liability and personal accident insurance for the person during their participation in the sanctioned event.

Teams

There will be team categories in both the Long Course and Short course Races.  If you’re a specialist runner or cyclist but don’t have a team partner, contact TriSA and we’ll see if we can organise somebody for you to compete with.

Race Rules

Both races will be conducted under Triathlon Australia’s National Competition rules and sanctioned by Triathlon Australia.

Only financial members of Triathlon Australia will be eligible to win Australian Championships and be awarded points for World Duathlon Championship selection.

Only financial members of Triathlon South Australia will be eligible to win South Australian Championships.

A reminder that to be financial, members will need to have paid their 2011/12 fees, memberships open as of the 1 July 2011.

Australian Duathlon Series

The Long Course race is a part of the Australian Duathlon Series and ADS points will be awarded to Triathlon Australia members completing the course.
